On Thursday, June 12, 2025, we experienced a service disruption that affected sites on Kinsta’s platform. This is a recap of the incident and what we’re doing in response.
Shortly before 6:00 PM UTC, our Support and Engineering teams began receiving reports of Kinsta-hosted websites displaying a domain configuration pending page. Our team began investigating and logged the incident to our status page at 6:12 PM UTC.
After an initial investigation, we discovered that these issues were related to a global outage at Cloudflare involving a portion of their products and services. Included in this outage was their Workers KV product, which plays a part in determining how our infrastructure routes site requests. This impacted our ability to properly route and serve requests and also resulted in intermittent issues with MyKinsta and its associated functions. Cloudflare's outage stemmed from a service disruption at Google, impacting a service Cloudflare relies on for some of its products.
Our team began seeing Kinsta’s services restored shortly before 8:00 PM UTC and fully operational at roughly 8:15 PM UTC. The platform remained stable from that point forward. In an update at 8:32 PM UTC, Cloudflare confirmed what we were already seeing and stated that service to Workers KV was recovering quickly. They would then confirm full operation for Workers KV at 8:57 PM UTC.
The incident has resulted in our Engineering team implementing methods to ensure continued website discovery if the connection to Cloudflare KV storage is ever interrupted again.
We're also working on a redundant system that could be used in place of Cloudflare KV in the event of prolonged downtime in the future.
Finally, Cloudflare has provided an overview of its intended courses of action to ensure the availability of the Workers KV services. These courses of action include improving redundancy and working to limit the impact radius of outages.
Our priority at Kinsta is to provide you with the best, most reliable WordPress hosting available anywhere. What we learn from incidents like this helps us improve the resilience of our service. We’re committed to learning and growing as a team and continuing to earn your trust every day.
